Refuge
de la Roche Écrite

Situated on the GRR2 national footpath between the village of Le Brulé and the summit of La Roche
Ecrite, this refuge provides welcome respite halfway up and, above all the chance to set off at dawn
to get the very best light when you reach the summit (2277m).
Built in a Creole style, this refuge will provide you with an authentic, immersive stay up in the hills
of Saint-Denis, at an altitude of 1,860m in the Plaine des Chicots, a nature reserve in the heart of the
National Park.
Our accommodation is simple but comfortable, with dormitory rooms (shared bathrooms) or double
rooms (private bathrooms).
Creole cuisine : Prepare yourself for a festival of flavours with Creole cuisine, made mainly from
fresh local ingredients. Meals (dinner, breakfast and lunch) are a great opportunity to chat to other
hikers.
Hiking and excursions : Climbing to the top of La Roche Écrite is a great way to explore this
fabulous natural park in the north of the island, passing through the home of the Tuit-Tuit (an
endemic bird and protected species), as well as magnificent views of Salazie and Mafate. This
hike requires good physical preparation and the right equipment – feel free to ask us for advice.
