Gîte
de Bélouve

The Gîte de Bélouve is situated at an altitude of 1,500 metres and is accessible by car via the forest road. It’s a really popular spot for hikers coming to and from the Piton des Neiges, and a must for anyone wanting to visit the Trou de Fer from Hell-Bourg. The easy, family-friendly footpath (even for inexperienced hikers) leads from the guesthouse to the viewpoint of the famous Trou de Fer waterfall.
Our accommodation is simple but comfortable, providing an authentic experience, whether in dormitory rooms (with shared bathrooms) or double rooms (with private bathrooms).
Creole cuisine : traditional Creole dishes are served, cooked by Sylvia and Jean Bernard, using mostly fresh local ingredients. Meals are a great opportunity to chat with other visitors.
Hiking and excursions : there are a number of footpaths leading from the Gîte de Bélouve, including those to Trou de Fer, Hell-Bourg, Sentier de la Vierge, Sentier des Tamarins and the footpath leading up to Piton des Neiges via Cap Anglais.
The Bébour forest is a rainforest up in the hills of the east of the island, and well worth a visit, with its lush vegetation and endemic species that are unique in the world!
Some hikes require good physical preparation and the right equipment. We’ll be happy to advise you.
Accessibility : The Bélouve forest is accessible to everyone. It really is the island’s best natural area for all levels and abilities. As part of an innovative approach, the area boasts an educational walk through the forest via a footpath known as the Somin Tamarin, accessible to people with reduced mobility (PRM) and the visually impaired. Depending on the weather, it may sometimes be closed.
A friendly reminder : these are isolated premises, equipped only with photovoltaic panels. This means that electricity is limited and dependant on the weather, and you won’t be able to recharge your electronic devices in the guesthouse. So don’t forget to pack spare batteries…
