Built in a purely Creole style, the Ilet à Bourse lodge invites you to an authentic and immersive stay in the heart of the Mafate cirque. Located at an altitude of 1000 meters, the atmosphere is peaceful, and the panoramas are enchanting. A stop at this lodge after several hours of walking on demanding trails will be rewarding.
Our accommodations are simple and comfortable. They offer a typical experience, in dormitory rooms (shared bathrooms) or in double rooms (private bathrooms). You will experience a timeless break at the heart of this Ilet.
Creole Cuisine: Prepare yourself for a festival of flavors with Christophe’s wood-fired Creole cuisine, made mostly from fresh local ingredients. Meals (dinner and breakfast) will be a moment of sharing with the other residents.
Hiking and Adventure: Mafate is a paradise for hikers. The trails around Ilet à Bourse are demanding and require good physical preparation and proper equipment. Christophe can offer you advice.

Keep in mind: You are in an isolated location where operations are constrained by difficulties in supplying food, water, and energy sources. Waste management is also challenging as the volume exceeds the capacity of the facility. Eco-responsible behavior is essential on this protected site:
- Bring spare batteries before you leave as you won’t be able to charge your electronic devices on site
- Take your own waste with you, including biodegradable items
- Water is a precious resource. It should be consumed sparingly. It cannot be provided on demand. You can purchase bottled water.

Hiking & Excursions
from Gîte Ilet à Bourse
There are many hikes from Ilet à Bourse, including the famous Sentier Scout footpath up to the Col
des Bœufs. Certain stretches along narrow ridges boast impressive and dizzying views of Mafate and
its sheer ramparts.
Other options include hiking all the way to Sans Souci (St Paul) via Grand Place, Cayenne, Lataniers
and the Canalisation des Orangers, or why not take a 4×4 to Rivière des Galets via Ilet à Malheur and
Aurère.
